BSc (Hons) (Chemistry)
Gert is an Environmental Geochemist with around six years’ experience across geoscience consulting and environmental chemistry laboratories, predominantly within the mining/resources and industrial sectors.  Gert joined MBS Environmental in 2017, prior to which he worked in commercial and specialist laboratory environments, where he was primarily involved in environmental geochemistry and analysis/interpretation of waters and soils.  His role at MBS Environmental has largely been centered on geochemical characterisation of mine wastes and ores, plus assessment for mine closure purposes including pollutant modelling in pit lakes.  Gert provides further support in the environmental/occupational health and licensing/compliance areas and is an Associate Member of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists.  He has particular expertise in:

  • Acid and Metalliferous Drainage (AMD) including kinetic studies.
  • Acid Sulfate Soils (ASS) – assessment and management.
  • Contaminated sites monitoring and assessment.
  • Geochemical waste characterisation of mine wastes (waste rock and tailings) and ore stockpiles across base metals, precious metals, rare earths and iron ore commodities.
  • Baseline soil and landform assessments.
  • Health hazard and dangerous goods classifications according to GHS, DG/IMDG, IMSBC and MARPOL.
  • Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and Dangerous Goods (DG) classification reports for mineral concentrates and other materials destined for land transport and shipping to comply with Port and international requirements.
  • Fibrous minerals (naturally occurring) and respirable silica assessment for mineral ores, concentrates and process residues.
  • Geochemical speciation modelling.
  • Air, surface and groundwater monitoring management plans.
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
