Mt Gould Iron Ore Project

Newcam Minerals Pty Ltd operate the Mt Gould Iron Ore Project located approximately 700 km north of Perth and 140km west northwest of Meekatharra in the Mid-west region of Western Australia. Mt Gould was previously mined for Micaceous Iron Ore (MIO) between 1995 and 2004 leaving a legacy of an un-rehabilitated open pit and waste rock side cast from the pit in steep terrain.

MBS assisted Newcam with obtaining approvals for exploration and to develop a new open pit, backfill the historic open pit and construct a waste rock dump at the base of the hill. Ore is screened on site prior to being transported to Geraldton for export. MBS continues to assist Newcam with implementation of the Project and with approvals for staged expansions.

The Project is located in the Murchison bioregion within and adjacent to the Mt Gould Priority Ecological Community. MBS assisted with co-ordination of baseline studies with a strong focus on flora, vegetation, fauna, soils and landform. Knowledge gained was used to develop project designs that avoided and minimised impacts to significant flora species and ecological communities.

Information collected by Newcom prior to and during operations continues to contribute to scientific knowledge of the Threatened flora species Halgania gustafsenii var. Murchison and PECs in banded iron formations.
