Qube Contaminated Sites

Qube is a freight logistics provider with numerous sites across Australia. Qube Ports and Bulk is located in Picton, Western Australia. The site is located in the Shire of Bunbury in Western Australia and is currently used for transport and as a mineral storage depot after being acquired by Qube in 2012. Prior to this, the site had been used a truck and logistics hub since the 1960s.

During construction activities of a new workshop and office in 2022, hydrocarbons were observed in the soils and groundwater associated with former site use. The site wassubsequently classified as Potentially Contaminated – Investigation Required by Department of Water, Environment and Regulation (DWER) in 2022. Following this, MBS Environmental has been engaged by Qube to undertake Preliminary and Detailed Site Investigations, in a staged fashion, to delineate the hydrocarbon contamination in the soils and groundwater beneath the newly established office building. The aim is to gradually progress knowledge of the nature and extent of the contamination and move towards a suitable remediation or monitored natural attenuation management of the site.
