Sandfire Annouces Solar Power Facility at DeGrussa

posted in: News | 0

Sandfire Resources NL propose to construct a 10.6 megawatt solar power facility at the DeGrussa Copper Mine.  MBS Environmental is assisting Sandfire with environmental approvals for this renewable energy project.  The solar power facility will:

  • Be the largest integrated off-grid solar array in Australia.
  • Be one of the largest integrated off-grid solar power systems to be used in the mining industry anywhere in the world.
  • Connect solar power to the existing 11 kilovolt high voltage network.
  • Involve installation of approximately 34,080 solar photovoltaic panels and a 6 megawatt battery.
  • Reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 12,000 tonnes annually.

To put this into perspective, the estimated carbon dioxide emission reduction is roughly equivalent to 3,000 average cars off the road each year*.  MBS Environmental is excited to be part of this project and continuing our strong relationship with Sandfire Resources NL.
