NELA Conference 2015 – Current Issues in Environmental Law

posted in: News | 0

The 2015 National Environmental Law Association (WA) State Conference was held at the Hyatt Regency, Perth on 3 September 2015, focusing on current issues in environmental law.  To complement a talk by Eve Lynch of Allens-Linklaters on the legal framework in Western Australia, David spoke about some of the practical issues for mine suspension and closure, in particular:

  • How suspension can upset a mine’s delicate water balance, the operational and legal implications, and how they can be mitigated.
  • Why care and maintenance can take a lot of care and maintenance.
  • Some of the ways operators can go about collecting closure data to support relinquishment within a definite timeframe.

David illustrated his talk with case studies of planned suspension, unplanned suspension and planned closure that MBS has helped with in recent years.
