MBS are proud to announce that we are the recipients of the Innovate TravelSmart Award Category (external link) for our FAT (Frequent Alternative Traveler) Rewards Scheme.  The TravelSmart Awards are a joint initiative of the TravelSmart Local Government and Workplace programs to recognise success in promoting TravelSmart initiatives.  TravelSmart programs encourage and support Western Australians to choose active and sustainable travel modes more often.  The TravelSmart Award Categories included Plan, Build, Champion, Innovate and Achieve.

Under the FAT Rewards Scheme, MBS staff can earn points through a credit system which are redeemed in a number of ways (purchase of health related items, purchase of SmartRider credit, contributions to charities).  MBS commenced the FAT Rewards Scheme in March 2013 with the aim of encouraging regular use of alternative forms of travel to and from work to:

  • Promote personal health.
  • Reduce road traffic and parking congestion.
  • Reduce our environmental footprint by reduced emissions.

The program has now been running for over 19 months with over 75% of staff deciding to participate and get FAT.  In addition to the FAT Rewards Scheme, MBS also provides assistance with up-front purchase of a bicycle which may then be repaid through redemption of points.  To date, 3 staff members have taken up this offer.

MBS also featured in today’s issue of the West Australian (external link).
