Increase in Area for the Kemerton Nature Reserve

Kemerton Silica Sand has recently completed transfer of 17 ha of privately owned land to the State of WA for inclusion into the neighbouring Kemerton Nature Reserve.  This land is part of a Threatened Ecological Community (Muchea Limestone) and adds significantly to the conservation values of the Kemerton Nature Reserve.

KSS 2 (Large)

In return for forgoing their right to mine this area of high conservation significance, Kemerton Silica Sand have received permission to dredge mine 13 ha area of private land that adjoins their current dredge pond.

The Kemerton Nature Reserve is 206 ha in area and is managed by the Department of Parks and Wildlife.  Transfer of land to form the Kemerton Nature Reserve has resulted in protection of several wetlands classified under the Environmental Protection (Swan Coastal Plain Lakes) Policy (EPP) 1992 as well as a significant area of the Threatened Ecological Community Muchea Limestone.  Kemerton Silica Sand provides on ground support to DPaW to assist with protection of its environmental values.  MBS provides support to Kemerton Silica Sand on a range of environmental matters.
