DMP has released a consultation paper for their proposed Low Impact Authorised Activities Framework which is open for public comment until 5pm 28 May 2015.
Under the Low Impact Authorised Activities Framework certain activities may be exempt from individual environmental assessments and instead, be subject to prescribed environmental standards. It is proposed:
- Low impact activities will be administered under a notification process, which will require tenement holders to notify DMP of the nature of the activity as well as when the activity is due to start and finish.
- The tenement holder will be required to demonstrate that intended activity meets the low impact activity criteria (prescribed in The Mining Regulations 1981).
- The tenement holder will be able to commence low impact activities once DMP notification is received, as DMP will not undertake an individual assessment.
- The activity will be subject to DMP’s compliance and inspection program.
The requirement for tenement holders to meet their current obligations in terms of tenement conditions will remain and failure to comply will subject the tenement to enforcement action under The Mining Act 1978. More information can be found on the DMP website.
