CAPABILITY
Acid Sulfate Soils

MBS Environmental has a proven capability for preparing acid sulfate soil (ASS) assessments and management plans to assist companies in assessing ASS risks prior to operations commencing. Our team of geochemists, soil scientists, environmental scientists and engineers provides the following contaminated site assessment services:
- Desktop assessments to establish whether soil excavations are likely to occur in high ASS risk zones.
- Developing sampling and analysis programs for the identification of ASS materials which align with the current DWER (2015) ASS guidelines.
- Performing site visits to sample potential ASS materials using methodologies that align with the current DWER (2015) ASS guidelines.
- Organising the analysis of soil and water samples by a NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities) accredited laboratory, using analytical procedures outlined in the DWER (2015) ASS guidelines.
- Treatment and management of ASS materials including processes required for their re-use and/or disposal as landfill waste.
- Preparing ASS assessment reports and management plans to support approvals pathways for planned operations.
Our ASS assessment services provide our clients with the following:
- Whether ASS materials occur within the project area and are likely to be disturbed as a result of mining operations.
- How to sample and analyse soil materials to determine whether they can be classified as ASS.
- How to manage/treat these materials if they are disturbed on site.
