Changes to WA Government Department Structures

Changes to WA government department structures were announced on Friday 28 April. The media statement is available here (external link).

Changes of interest to the environmental and mining sectors include:

  • New Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety – incorporates the previous Department of Mines and Petroleum and parts of the previous Department of Commerce.
  • New Department of Water and Environmental Regulation – incorporates the previous Office of Environmental Protection Authority, Department of Environment Regulation and Department of Water.
  • The previous Department of Parks and Wildlife is now incorporated into the new Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions.
  • The previous Department of State Development is now incorporated into the new Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation.

The Director General of the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation will be Mike Rowe (currently director general of Department of Water). The Director General of the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions will be Mark Webb.
